Why The Hell Didn't I Build A Sales Funnel?

So it’s been a year that I’ve been online trying to figure things out and reflecting on the past year, there were some big mistakes made.  One of the biggest ones I made was not learning about and building a sales funnel.  Seriously, why the hell didn’t I build a sales funnel?  Even in basic “real” world marketing, the sales funnel is an important concept.  Back in the day it was done through snail mail called direct mail.  Now, direct mail has become email marketing and the sales funnel is just as important as ever.  So what was I thinking!!!??

The truth is that although I had learned about a sales funnel back in the day when I was attempting to get my BS in marketing, I never had to use it or put what I learned into practice.  And as I’m sure many of you can relate, if I don’t put a concept into practice I never really understand it.  So as I started to see small mentions of it here and there in my internet wanderings, I didn’t put much weight on it.  I figured it was something I could deal with when I got bigger.  Stupid, stupid, stupid.

The Importance Of A Good Sales Funnel

The purpose of a sales funnel is to narrow down your subscribers to a targeted list of buyers that you can actually make sales to.  We spend a lot of time, energy and money marketing our business.  If all we are reaching are people who have no interest and will unsubscribe without ever buying a thing, well then that’s just wasting valuable time.

A sales funnel literally works as would a real funnel.  You use your free offer to attract subscribers.  You’ll get thousands of subscribers falling into the wide end of the funnel.  Your autoresponder sequence is where the funnel begins to narrow.  As each email is sent, the uninterested parties will drop off leaving only real prospects.  At the bottom of the funnel where it is narrowest would be where you present your premium product.  Buyers will emerge from the bottom of the funnel leaving you with an extremely targeted list of buyers that will be looking for solutions to their problems.

Build A Funnel Into Your Site

I tried functioning for nearly a year without a sales funnel and what I ended up with was a lot of subscribers who got their free gift and ran.  It totally SUCKED and I can’t believe I hadn’t thought about it before.  So learning from my stupid mistake it’s a really good idea to build a sales funnel as you build your website.

Doing so will ensure that your site and your sales funnel function together seamlessly.  It’s easier to build one with the other in mind than to have to revamp your site after you’ve spent hours designing it.

Conclusion

Many say a sales funnel is obsolete.  I don’t think this is the case.  I think there has been some evolution to the way business is done.  Not EVERY customer is going to go through your sales funnel.  Some may want immediate results without being “courted” and you can provide that with the use of social media or other direct avenues.  But the fact remains that a sales funnel is still necessary to help you get targeted subscribers to your site.  So as the saying goes, JUST DO IT!

Achieve the dream!
